Ah, the life of a musician. Careful what you wish for eh? Still, doubtful I'll ever have to work in a cube again. At least life is now virtually free of fluorescent lights.
But the late hours can be, well, tiring. I know, yadda yadda boo hoo. But think of my girl waiting back home for me. (Or happily power watching Breaking Bad and not waiting up for me!) In any case, that's who I was thinking about. More than a few songs here are about my darling. Here's one of them. In line with keeping it simple this song tells the simple truth: I'm just doing my job, staying out of trouble (for the most part) and I'll be home before too long. Honest. |
Darling Don't You Wait Up For Me
Sometimes I fall in a deep dark hole
I try to not to fuss and shout
I'm no damn fun till I claw my way out
Darling don't you wait up for me
Sometimes I'm out and it's late at night
Do you wonder where I am?
I'm heading home, at least that's the plan
Darling don't you wait up for me
Got no other girl I'm too wise and besides
I'm far too old for that
Our home's the only place where I park my hat
Darling don't you wait up for me
If you think I'm out drinking, well darling I confess
I might take a dram or two
And a couple of pints of my favorite brew
Darling don't you wait up for me
Yes I know you worry ... "your late" you will say
When at last I come stumbling home
But dear heart, in spirit, you're never alone
Darling don't you wait up for me
'Cause sometimes I fall in a deep dark hole
I try to not to fuss and shout
I'm no damn fun till I claw my way out
Darling don't you wait up for me
